Copper Country People’s March This Saturday
The Houghton County Dems encourage you to join in the Copper Country People’s March to be held this Saturday. Gather at 1 PM at Bridgeview Park, for a few words followed by crossing the Bridge.
The March is co-sponsored by Susan Burack and the League of Women Voters of the Copper County. The event is billed as a Peoples March for everybody, with the Constitution and the Bill of Rights as inspiration for signs. (Signs and themed attire are encouraged, but please keep them family friendly.)
This is one of many marches taking place across the country on the 18th, two days before Inauguration Day. Visibility is a goal, as is sending a message to the new presidential administration that we are watching.
WE JOIN THE ORGANIZER OF ONE OF THE SISTER EVENTS BEING HELD THIS SATURDAY IN SAYING:
“We need to see numbers to show support and to feel support. Now is not the time to say you don't like [marches]. Seriously.
Of course, this won't be all you should or can do, but start off 2025 by showing up this way. Tell everyone, and tell them to tell everyone. This is for your friends, your families, your young ones, for you.”
President Biden’s Eulogy for Former President Carter

“I was a 31-year-old senator, and I was the first senator outside of Georgia - maybe the first senator - to endorse his candidacy for president. It was an endorsement based on what I believe is Jimmy Carter’s enduring attribute: character. Character. Character. Because of that - character, I believe, is destiny - destiny in our lives and, quite frankly, destiny in the life of the nation.”
These are some of the words delivered by President Biden at the National Funeral Service for former President Jimmy Carter this past Thursday. The President talked about Carter’s character, his faith, and his belief in an idea - the idea that America is “a nation where all are created equal in the image of God and deserve to be treated equally throughout our lives.”
“We’ve never fully lived up to that idea of America”, the President said. “But we’ve never walked away from it either, because of patriots like Jimmy Carter.
Throughout his life, he showed us what it means to be a practitioner of good works and a good and faithful servant of God and of the people.
And today, many think he was from a bygone era. But in reality, he saw well into the future.
A white Southern Baptist who led on civil rights.
A decorated Navy veteran who brokered peace.
A brilliant nuclear engineer who led on nuclear nonproliferation.
A hardworking farmer who championed conservation and clean energy.
And a president who redefined the relationship with the vice president.”
A transcript of the President’s eulogy can be found on the White House website. The full remarks can be seen in the YouTube video below.
If you’d like to memorialize former President Carter, the Carter family has asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to The Carter Center, 453 John Lewis Freedom Parkway N.E., Atlanta, GA 30307.
Donations, and online condolences, can also be left at the Tribute Page hosted by the Carter Center. You can find that page here: https://www.jimmycartertribute.org
