ACTION NEEDED BY MONDAY: This will only take 2 minutes of your time

HCDP News for October 17th

YOU’RE ACTION IS URGENTLY NEEDED

Fellow Democrats and Friends,

We meant to cover this topic in our weekly newsletter on Tuesday but unfortunately when gathering topics to put together this week it was somehow overlooked.

BUT IT’S IMPORTANT.

So, right to the point: The administration is attempting an end run around the legislative process to try to implement the voter suppression tactics that were included in the SAVE Act. This Act was approved by the Republican-led US House in February of this year, but the Democratically-led US Senate has declined to pick it up. It’s a bad bill that will have negative impacts on our right to vote.

Every one of us needs to take action to speak out against this end run. Below is a letter (that many of you may have received) from the Democratic National Committee. As the DNC notes, a Trump executive order for this end run was defeated in court, but that didn’t stop them. We urge everyone to read this and then make their voice heard through the process the DNC outlines.

Thank you,

Houghton County Democratic Party

Team,

We’re asking for your help today to protect the right to vote from Trump and his allies’ latest attacks. Here’s what’s going on:

First, Trump signed an executive order demanding that documentary proof of citizenship be added to federal voter registration applications. This would make it more difficult for eligible Americans to register to vote — especially married women who have changed their names, because their birth certificates and other citizenship documents may not match their current name.

So, the DNC fought back in court against Trump’s attempt to add this requirement. We stopped him.

But now, Trump’s allies in the America First Legal Foundation — which was co-founded by Stephen Miller — are making their own demand to add this requirement to federal voter registration applications.

We’re asking for your help to fight back, again.

Please, join the DNC in telling the U.S. Election Assistance Commission not to add documentary proof of citizenship requirements to federal voter registration forms. Click the link below to submit a comment and make your voice heard. You can copy and paste a sample comment or make it your own.

Here are the instructions on how to help — this will only take two minutes of your time:

  • Click the following link: www.regulations.gov/submit-a-comment.

  • Copy and paste the sample comment below or type in your own.

  • Click “An Individual” or “Anonymous.”

  • Click “I am not a robot.”

  • Click “Submit Comment.”

A sample submission:
I oppose America First Legal Foundation’s petition to add documentary proof of citizenship requirements for federal voter registration applications. This requirement would disenfranchise eligible American citizens by imposing significant new burdens. Documentary proof of citizenship laws creates problems and solves none.

Comments are due by October 20, so please don’t wait to make your voice heard.

Thank you,

The Democrats
