POTLUCK AND MONTHLY MEETING TOMORROW

Join us for our monthly meeting at 7 PM, Wednesday August 6 at the Super 8 in Houghton.

  • Potluck starts at 6 PM. Bring a dish to share if you can, or just stop in and enjoy some quality time with your fellow Dems before we settle down to business at 7.

Membership in the Houghton County Democratic Party is encouraged, but not required, to attend meetings. We welcome all Houghton County residents who support progressive Democratic government to attend our meetings and events and also to become involved.

UPCOMING EVENTS

PASTY FEST IS AUGUST 16TH

We’ll be tabling again at Pasty Fest in downtown Calumet, and all our volunteer slots have now been filled! Thanks to all our volunteers. Stop by and say hi in between sampling pasties!

HOUGHTON COUNTY FAIR IS AUGUST 21ST THROUGH THE 24TH

Once again we’ll have a table at the Fair, and we look forward to capping off a summer of events with another opportunity to say hello to fairgoers and share our message.

Note the time and location change for our annual picnic!

OUR ANNUAL POTLUCK PICNIC IS AUGUST 31ST

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at our annual potluck picnic on Sunday, August 31st. This year we’ll be at the Lake Linden Village Park, across Calumet Street (M-26) from the Range Bank. Parking is available on Calumet Street, or turn right down 2nd Street (just beyond the park if you're coming from Houghton) to find additional parking off of Front Street by the baseball diamond.

The fun begins at 4 PM. As usual, we'll provide burgers, hot dogs and sodas. If you can, please bring a dish to pass.

IT’S ELECTION DAY - THE HCDP RECOMMENDS A ‘YES’ VOTE ON FUNDING PROPOSALS ON TODAY'S BALLOT

The Houghton County Democrats support five proposals appearing on ballots here in Houghton County this August. These proposals will provide funding for the new County Jail, Canal View, Meals on Wheels, the Copper Country ISD, and the Baraga Area Schools (on ballots for those voters in Houghton and Baraga Counties who reside within the Baraga Area Schools District).

Election Day is today, Tuesday August 5th.

MDP Holds Yooper People's Town Hall Next Tuesday in Marquette

From the MDP:

This isn't your typical political meeting – it's an inclusive space where every voice counts and every perspective adds value. Share what you think Rep. Jack Bergman should be prioritizing instead of avoiding his constituents and from the tariff-induced rising cost of everyday goods to the draconian cuts to Medicaid and Medicare, causing rural healthcare facilities to close. Republican policies are putting Michiganders at risk. This is the conversation Rep. Bergman is too afraid to have. Bring your neighbors, questions, and ideas.

Callie Barr to Visit Houghton and Baraga Counties This Weekend

From Brian Hoduski, Co-Chair, Candidate Recruiting, HCDP:

Dear friends:

Please join me and your Copper Country neighbors and friends in meeting (or meeting again) U.S. House candidate Callie Barr!

She is eager to hear from you and to take your questions.

I know her to be a smart, determined, and dynamic young leader, who only wants to honestly represent and truly serve the people of Michigan’s 1st Congressional district.

I hope you can join us at the 5th & Elm this Saturday morning and form your own impressions of her.

Callie Barr Meet & Greet is this Saturday from 10 AM to 12 PM. Join us at 5th & Elm Coffee House, 426 Quincy Street, Hancock. RSVP to [email protected]

From Lisa A. Philip, Chair Baraga County Democratic Party:

Dear Everyone,

Exciting news! We have Callie Barr, candidate for US Representative District 1, coming to L’Anse for a meet and greet with our Baraga County Democrats! She would like to speak to us about her experience and vision and also visit with us to learn about what issues are most important to our community.

When: Friday, August 8, 2025

Time: 5 - 7 PM

Where: L’Anse Township Hall

Light refreshments will be served

We would like to have as many Democrats attend this event as possible. Please come and bring a friend. This is your opportunity to meet her and voice what issues are most important to you.

It is exciting to have candidates interested in visiting our county this summer before next year’s election cycle!
