Potluck and Monthly Meeting Tomorrow

Our next Monthly Meeting will be tomorrow night at 7 PM.

The potluck dinner begins at 6 PM.

POTLUCK AT 6PM

Bring a dish to share - whether homemade or store bought - and enjoy some quality time with your fellow Dems before we settle down to business at 7. And don’t worry, if you’re not a good cook and don’t have time to shop, we’d still love for you to stop in and enjoy some food and conversation.

MONTHLY MEETING AT 7PM

You do not need to be a member to attend our monthly meetings, and we would welcome your attendance. Monthly meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month unless otherwise communicated.

IN PERSON: The meeting will be held in-person at the Super 8 Motel in Houghton.

REMOTE ATTENDANCE: Remote attendance is via Zoom. Email readers can click the button below at 7 PM on Wednesday to be connected to the Zoom session.

A Word from the Chair

Everything has come down to today. Our volunteers have been sending postcards, making calls, and knocking doors, doing everything we can to contact voters and get Dems across Houghton County to vote early or plan to vote today.

After you've voted yourself, there's still one thing that everyone can do. You're subscribed to a Democratic Party newsletter, so you're probably more politically aware and active than many of your friends. Many people think that their vote can't matter, or doesn't count - but Michigan is a swing state and the margin may be paper-thin, so every vote absolutely counts, and a vote for Kamala Harris is a vote for the future of American democracy. Talk to your friends, the ones whose hearts are in the right place - make sure they either have voted already, or plan to be at the polls today.

You can even go knock doors still! We're at the office all day today, at 323 Quincy St in Hancock, and we'll be able to give you a list to go contact, of likely Dems who haven't yet voted. Show up any time before 6pm and we'll put you to work! We have snacks!

After the polls close, we can catch our breath. Come join us at the Watch Party at the office, starting at 8pm, to follow the returns with fellow Democrats. Or join the College Dems at Michigan Tech in M&M U115, if you're on campus. We'll have our regular monthly meeting Wednesday, potluck at 6 and business at 7, at the Super 8 as always.

So many of you reading this have contributed your time, energy, cash, or your creativity to our efforts. It all counts. Elections in a democracy are about many voices becoming one, and yours are the voices. Thank you all. Let's run this election across the finish line together.

Voting Information for Today

RIDES TO THE POLLS ON ELECTION DAY

We have a volunteer who can take people to the polls on Election Day. If you are in need of a ride please call (906) 370-5496.

MICHIGAN ALLOWS CITIZENS TO REGISTER TO VOTE ON ELECTION DAY

Michigan law allows same-day voter registration, meaning that eligible citizens can register and vote up to and on Election Day. Voters may register or update their voter registration in person at their city or township clerk’s office through 8 PM on Election Day. Citizens must bring proof of residency with them to their clerk’s office if attempting to register on Election Day. Find your clerk’s office by entering your address on this web page from the Michigan Voter Information Center.

Today is the day - if you haven’t already voted get out there and Vote Blue!

WHERE IS MY POLLING LOCATION FOR IN PERSON VOTING TODAY? or I VOTED ABSENTEE - IS THERE A WAY TO BE SURE MY ABSENTEE BALLOT WAS RECEIVED?

If you are a Michigan resident you can find your polling location, along with it’s phone number and hours by typing your information into this web page from the Michigan Voter Information Center. If you have already voted absentee, the resulting page will also show you tracking information for your absentee ballot so you can be sure that it has been received by your local clerk’s office.

KEEP THIS NUMBER HANDY WHEN YOU GO TO THE POLLS

The Michigan Democratic Party’s Voter Protection Hotline is available to answer any questions and to address any problems you may encounter as you go to vote during this year’s election. The hotline number is 1-833-MI VOTES (1-833-648-6837).

If you are at a polling site and you experience ANY ACTIVITY that seems intended to threaten or disrupt voting, please call the hotline. A real person will speak with you in real time. This is the safest and best way for voters to report such activity.

ARE MICHIGAN ELECTIONS SAFE AND SECURE?

Since the 2020 Election there has been a lot of misinformation spread about election integrity and election security. It pays to know the facts. The Michigan Secretary of State’s office has a great resource of Election Facts, along with a way for you to report misinformation. Visit the Inform Yourself On Michigan Elections web page to learn more.

Our Next Monthly Meeting is Tomorrow!
