HEALTHCARE FOR ALL TOWN HALL TOMORROW

JOIN US ON TOMORROW, OCTOBER 15TH AT FIFTH & ELM IN HANCOCK TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE MICARE PROPOSAL BY MICHIGAN DEMOCRATS.

The Houghton County Dems have partnered with other local progressive groups to sponsor a Healthcare for All Town Hall.

MiCare is a proposed universal, publicly funded health care plan that would provide every Michigander comprehensive, high-quality coverage, without deductibles, co-insurance, co-pays, or caps. MiCare would maintain and add to today’s health care provider network, bringing savings to patients, employers, and providers by reducing administrative costs, resulting in direct savings for the vast majority of Michiganders.

PLEASE NOTE - THE OCTOBER MEET UP, WHICH WOULD NORMALLY BE HELD ON THE 15TH WILL NOT TAKE PLACE THIS MONTH. WE’D LOVE TO SEE ALL OF OUR REGULAR MEET UP ATTENDEES AT THE HEALTHCARE FOR ALL TOWN HALL!

WHEN: 7 PM Wednesday, October 15th

WHERE: Fifth & Elm, 426 Quincy Street, Hancock MI

RSVP: We respectfully request your RSVP so we have an accurate headcount for Studio Pizza and refreshments! (Click the button below or scan the QR code in the flyer above).

OPEN UP OUR CARE TOWN HALL NEXT WEDNESDAY

We are all aware of the fact that the Republicans Big Bad Billionaire Bill, now law, poses threats to US health care. In fact, it’s created an almost perfect storm of rising prices for everyone.

Millions of Americans who’ve gotten healthcare through the ACA marketplace will find that the removal of subsidies means they’ll be priced out of health insurance for next year, while cuts to Medicaid mean hospitals in rural areas like ours will be facing financial shortfalls and forced to cut service or maybe even close.

The lack of the ACA subsidies that will force people off of health insurance also means insurance companies will have fewer customers next year. Fewer customers means less of a pool of resources to pay for claims, unless those insurers do something. So they are doing something - they are raising insurance premiums for 2026 for the rest of us. As open enrollment for next year starts at many employers, folks are likely to find their own health care premiums are rising.

If you’re concerned about the state of health care in our county join us next Wednesday for the Open Up Our Care Town Hall. The Houghton County Dems, along with AWAVE, are sponsoring this event — a panel discussion featuring US Senate candidate Dr. Abdul El-Sayed along with local health care providers and others to talk about the coming threats to our care and what can be done to address them.

WHEN: 6:30 PM Wednesday, October 22nd

WHERE: Keweenaw Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 604 Bridge Street, Houghton MI

MARQUETTE COUNTY RUSH HOUR RESISTANCE

If you’re willing to travel, or know someone in the greater Marquette area who’d like to participate, you can get more information and RSVP by clicking the button below.

WHEN: Tuesday October 21st, 4 PM

WHERE: Across three different locations in Marquette, Negaunee and Ishpeming

“NO KINGS DAY 2.0 IN THE COPPER COUNTRY” ON OCTOBER 18

THE ONLY WAY TO PROTECT OUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH IS TO EXERCISE OUR FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

WHEN: Saturday, October 18. Rally starts at Noon. MotorMarch participants meet up at 11 AM.
