#HandsOffMedicaid
The item that follows is a direct reprint from Rogan’s List, and gives information on actions you can take to help fight back against the Republican’s budget bill that threatens to cut billions from Medicaid:
ROGAN’S LIST

📢 TOOLS AND TALKING POINTS FOR LETTERS TO THE EDITOR AGAINST MAGA’S BUDGET 📢
The MAGA murder budget would be the largest transfer of wealth from the poor to the rich in a single law in U.S. history (check out summaries from the Center for American Progress and the Progressive Caucus). And House Republicans are struggling with each other to make it even worse, with so-called moderates fighting for more tax cuts for high-income families and the Freedom Caucus angry that they’re not kicking even more than 8.6 million low-income folks off Medicaid. Right now, it’s not clear they have enough votes to make it through the Budget Committee. This is an opportunity we have to take advantage of.
We can speak out against this by writing letters to our local editors pushing back, and Moms Rising is here to help us. We can look here to find sample talking points and all the tools we need to write a strong letter to the editor protesting the GOP’s cruel, deep cuts to Medicaid.
We can also:
Keep calling our members of Congress ourselves here
Reach out to our neighbors with Indivisible’s Neighbor2Neighbor program here
Sign up to knock doors in key districts here
Join the Medicaid Defenders and Working Families Party for phonebanks to folks in key districts next week here and here
Find even more ways to help here
Rogan’s List is one of several “Resources for Action and Education” that a group of HCDP members put their heads together and come up earlier this year. You can find the full list of these resources on our website here (the list is in a table format best viewed from your desktop or tablet).
05/27: HOW TO RUN FOR LOCAL OFFICE
HOUGHTON COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY
One of the best actions you can take to help preserve and defend our constitution and our democracy is to run for office.
Considering a run for a local school board, township council or other local seat? Be sure to attend the HCDP Recruitment Committee’s session on How to Run for Local Office.
The session will be held at the 5th & Elm, 426 Quincy Street in Hancock next Tuesday, May 27th, starting at 6 PM. Pizza and drinks will be available.

06/14: NO KINGS DAY NATIONALLY / BRIDGEFEST LOCALLY
You are likely aware that a coalition of national pro-democracy groups is calling for another No Kings Day on June 14th. It’s being billed as “A Nationwide Day of Defiance”. That date has been chosen to coincide with the scheduling for Donald Trump’s military parade / birthday-party-at-taxpayer-expense in Washington, D.C.
Here in Houghton County June 14th is the Sunday of the annual Bridgefest weekend. That means that the Lift Bridge, our best and most visible venue for local protests, will NOT be available. Because of this, there is no coordination occurring locally to hold a No Kings Day rally and/or bridge march.

BUT WAIT - YOU CAN STILL HELP!
Both the Houghton County Dems and Keweenaw Indivisible are busy planning entries into the Bridgefest Parade, and could use your help!
If you are interested in becoming involved with our planning, or in participating with us in the Parade, please drop us an email at [email protected] or leave us a voicemail at (906) 523-1233.
Likewise, if you’re interested in assisting Keweenaw Indivisible, contact them at [email protected].
