BARAGA DEMS MONTHLY MEETING

We haven’t highlighted neighboring County Party meetings before but it’s worth mentioning this month’s Baraga County Dems meeting happening this evening at the L’Anse Township Hall at 6 PM.

The HCDP’s Policy and Resolutions Vice Chair Katie LaCosse and Nadija Packauskas are on the agenda to present on the proposal to renovate the Ojibway Correctional Facility into a state psychiatric facility, instead of turning the shuttered property into a detention center for ICE as proposed by Rep. Greg Markkanen (MI House Resolution 151).

You may recall that Katie took us through this discussion at our October meeting, after which a resolution in favor of the proposal was unanimously approved by the members present (See the item in our October 7th newsletter, which includes a link to the resolution.)

HAVE YOU VISITED OUR WEBSITE LATELY?

If you haven’t checked out our website lately it’s a good time for a visit. We’ve got a few new resources for you.

CHANGES TO THE MAIN PAGE

First, as noted above, we now have an Events calendar on the main page of our website that’s being updated in line with the events we highlight here in the newsletter. We highlight not just events we sponsor but also those sponsored by other progressively minded groups in our area. We also feature virtual events about important topics for Houghton County Dems and friends.

A couple of other changes to the website include a new header (with an outward focus of photos of our area rather than our past header that focused on all of us), and a cleaner presentation of our latest newsletter, along with a link to subscribe and another link to the newsletter archive.

NEW PAGES

If you look at the menu at the top of the website you’ll see that we’ve also got a few new pages for you. Along with our Resources for Action page that we added at the start of the year, we now have a listing of the 2026 Democratic Primary Candidates that are seeking your vote next November, and a listing of local governments across the county, along with contact information and info on local city, village or township websites, and local council meeting times and locations.

There’s also a direct link from the menu to our newsletter archive. Remember, if you ever miss a newsletter for whatever reason, you can always find it in our archive.

And the archive itself has a new look and feel, thanks to upgrades courtesy of our newsletter services platform.

LET US KNOW WHAT YOU THINK

We’d love to hear your feedback. Are these new pages useful? Is there other information you’d like to see from us? Send your feedback to [email protected].
